Abstract

Prolotherapy is an injection based treatment for chronic laxity of ligament and tendon. Repeated injection with irritant solutions is thought to strengthen the weak ligaments and reduce pain and disability. But, serious complications like tendons rupture may be caused by the prolotherapy. We reported the partial rupture of common extensor tendon in patient who had been treated by prolotherapy. We followed up the healing process by high resolution ultrasound during conservative treatment. We recommend the appropriate prolotherapy on the interval, number of time, concentration and volume of proliferants, and also recommend follow up the treatment process by high resolution ultrasound if the pain or the motor weakness were changed during repetitive prolotherapy.
